A member said Kakuuto’s health centre IV needs urgent renovation because the ceiling collapsed and the hospital lacks funds. The MP urged the government to fund the repairs so the facility meets standards.

(Hon. Ekanya rose_) Affirmative action. Madam Speaker, thank you for this opportunity. I would like to emphasise the point of funding for the renovation of health centres. We have a very big challenge, especially in Kakuuto, a health centre IV- this is a border district, which serves a very wide region. We have only two wards, one ward serving both males and females. However, just recently, the ceiling fell on the patients. The hospital does not have funds to renovate the ceiling and it is we, Members of Parliament, who have to do this work that the Government should be doing. I support the committee report to renovate these health centre facilities so that they can be up to the standard. Thank you.

Thank you, Mr Speaker. On 26 August 2021, the Prime Minister informed this House that the Kyotera-Mutukura Road was going to be rehabilitated by September 2021. As Members of Parliament from Kyotera, we met UNRA officials and they told us they did not have the money to rehabilitate the road, but that it would be repaired. However, this road is beyond repair, especially when you go to Kakuuto side. My question is: what is the current government plan to rehabilitate this road and when, exactly, are you going to start working on the road? Thank you.

Thank you, Mr Speaker. Rt Hon. Prime Minister, some time back, you were in Kyotera District over the issue of Sango Bay. You did an aerial survey and indicated to the nation that Sango Bay had 300 people, and that Government would be considering them for compensation. Would you, kindly, share the list of the 300 people? Secondly, going by the polling data from the last polls, Sango Bay has over 7,000 voters. So, I am wondering how you arrived at 300 people. Thank you.

Thank you, Madam Speaker. I rise under rule 49. With grave concern, I wish to bring to the attention of this House a life-threatening situation evolving in Kyotera District. On 1 December 2021, the District Internal Security Officer reported 14 deaths that had happened at Kijonjo Village, Kasasa Subcounty, Kyotera District. As of today, 15 people have died and it is purported that the symptoms are the same. What is very threatening is that the locals are currently shunning going to hospitals, claiming that whoever goes to hospital dies. It is very unfortunate that there has been no formal statement from the Ministry of Health. Well aware of what happened in the early 1980s, still in Kyotera and Rakai when the AIDS scourge was starting to ravage this country, it is very concerning to all Ugandans. My prayer, therefore, is for the Minister of Health to make a statement to this House over what exactly is happening, and if there is anything they have done to avert the situation in Kyotera. I beg to submit

Name could mean more than one place

The speaker used a name that fits several places, for example just “Soroti”, which could be the city, the district or an area within them. We show these exactly as spoken and do not choose a meaning for the speaker.

None in the sittings covered.

Reading what is missing. This page shows what the ingested sittings say about the place. It does not say what should have been said. Check the coverage line above.
